Life in Surround Sound

It’s no surprise that two ears hear better than one. Recipients with bilateral cochlear implants (one in each ear) experience many of the following benefits compared to using one cochlear implant:2

  • Better hearing in noisy environments
  • Better localization of sound
  • Greater ease of listening—less effort, less stress, and less fatigue
  • Situational advantages—no need to consider where to sit so that your implanted ear is positioned to best capture sound
  • Quality improvements—sound may be fuller, richer, and more natural

What if I Already Have One Implant?

Many cochlear implant recipients don’t decide to go bilateral until after using one implant for a year or more.

  • If you already have one AB cochlear implant, it’ll work perfectly in concert with a second cochlear implant from AB.
  • If you have another brand in one ear, choosing the Harmony® HiResolution® Bionic Ear System from AB for the other ear could help deliver a more complete sound picture.
