Phonetically Balanced Kindergarten Monosyllabic Word Test (PB-K 50)
By: Haskins, 1949
Description
This is an open-set test of monosyllabic word recognition. A full list consists of 50 phonetically balanced single-syllable kindergarten words. The words are presented via tape recorder or live voice. The patient repeats the last word s/he hears in the phrase; Say the word….
If the child is unsure of the word, s/he should guess a word that sounds as close as possible. The examiner should phonetically transcribe every word because performance is scored on the basis of the number of phonemes, as well as words, that are correctly understood. Consonant blends are counted as one phoneme, so the child must repeat the entire blend to receive credit for it. The chance score on this open-set test is 0%.
