Welcome to the BEA eNews, delivered monthly by email to AB candidates, recipients, and family members! The purpose of the eNews is to quickly and easily connect you each month to the most current information, news, and events.

Back-to-School Time!

As the new school year begins, AB wants to remind you of our valuable Tools for Schools (TFS) program. TFS offers free tips, tools and resources to parents, teachers, and anyone involved in the education of children with cochlear implants. Whether you are looking for an easy way to communicate with your child's teachers, tips for teachers new to cochlear implants, or assistance for troubleshooting a speech processor, you will find it in our TFS program. Make sure your child's teacher and therapists sign up for this free program to get monthly enewsletters, announcements and online events.

Hear and Be Heard

While millions of Americans and Canadians are candidates for cochlear implants, fewer than 10% actually get one. Because you have experienced the joy that hearing with a CI can bring to your life, many of you are actively reaching out to educate others as BEA mentors — like the Fotta family, from Maryland.

On July 31, 2009, the entire Fotta family pitched in to host the first Michael Kade Fotta Golf Tournament in Hagerstown, Maryland. The event raised $4,000 to benefit the Listening Center at Johns Hopkins. Michael Kade, the Fottas’ 7-year-old son, has had a cochlear implant for nearly six years. He went bilateral in June 2009. We are all proud of the Fotta family’s commitment to helping others Hear and Be Heard!

To learn more about how you can help others to Hear and Be Heard, contact the BEA today.
