CII BTE Obsolescence Program

One of Advanced Bionics' most important goals is to ensure that all of its patients receive the best lifelong support possible. This means that when AB is no longer able to support its older generation technologies, recipients are provided access to the most recent and technologically advanced products.

Unfortunately because of changes in the availability of parts, AB is unable to continue to provide support for its CII BTE processor. As of February 8, 2009, AB discontinued manufacturing the CII BTE and declared the product obsolete.

This means that extended warranty plans for the CII BTE will no longer be available for purchase from AB. Repairs to a CII BTE will be made if parts are available, but these repairs will not be guaranteed. On January 1, 2010, AB will discontinue all support for the CII BTE, including repairs.

With support no longer available for your CII BTE, AB encourages you to replace it with the newest and most sophisticated processor, the Harmony® processor. With Harmony, many experience improvements over the CII BTE including:

As an added benefit, for a limited time AB is offering an extended warranty when you replace your CII BTE with Harmony. For any CII BTE replacement with Harmony* made on or before December 31, 2009, AB will add an additional two years to its standard three year warranty plan for a total of five years of warranty service on your Harmony processor.

Replacing your CII BTE with Harmony is easy:
  1. Call AB Customer Service at 877.829.0026 (TTY 800.678.3575) or chat online live with a representative and ask for the CII BTE to Harmony replacement program.
  2. Provide your insurance information and AB will take care of all reimbursement paperwork. Many insurance plans will cover the replacement of a sound processor that has been deemed obsolete by the manufacturer. Individual coverage may vary. To expedite the process, you can fill out an insurance authorization form and either fax it to the AB Insurance Reimbursement Service at 877.833.6318 or mail it to the address provided on the form.
  3. Let AB know if you need help with out-of-pocket expenses. Financing and payment plan options are available.
  4. AB will send your new processor directly to you. When you receive it, you should contact your cochlear implant center to make an appointment for programming.
  5. You do not have to return your existing CII BTE to AB. It's yours to continue using or keep as a spare.
