Using Portable Music Players With the S-Series Sound Processor
Many patients enjoy listening to music and ask us for recommendations on how to connect their S-Series Sound Processor to a portable music player such as an iPod® or MP3.
The first way is to connect a pair of over-the ear headphones to the music player, and then place the headphones directly over the headpiece. The headpiece houses a microphone that will pick up the sound being transmitted through the headphones.
The second way is to directly connect the processor to the portable music player with the Audio Interface Cable (#CI-5815). The Audio Interface Cable provides a direct connection between the portable music player and the S-Series Processor. To order the Audio Interface Cable, visit our Webstore or call Customer Care at (877) 829-0026 or (800) 678-3575 (TTY).
The Audio Interface Cable has a stereo plug, while the auxiliary jack on the S-Series Processor accepts mono input. If interference is noted, it may be necessary to use a mono-to-stereo adapter between the Audio Interface Cable and your Sound Processor. To use, connect one end of the cable into the portable music player. Connect the other end of the cable into the mono to stereo adapter, and then connect the adapter to the auxiliary jack on the side of the S-Series Processor.

NOTE: We strongly recommend that the Auxiliary Audio Cable only be used with battery-operated devices.

Audio Mixing
Audio mixing is not available on the S-Series processor. If the S-Series Processor is connected directly to a music player, the microphone on the headpiece will be inactive, and only the sound from the music player will be heard. If the user wishes to hear other sounds, including their own voice, a custom cable must be purchased that includes a splitter to allow use of a lapel microphone and the auxiliary audio walkman cable at the same time.
