First and foremost, AB recognizes the need to continually improve reliability. Over AB’s 16-year history, dramatic improvements have been achieved, positioning today’s AB cochlear implant system as number one in “Total System Reliability”—the reliability of both the internal and external components combined. Every single patient’s experience matters, so we will continue to make reliability our first priority, driving industry-leading advancements to ensure that our recipients can always depend on their AB cochlear implant systems.
-
+
While reliability and performance are the most critical considerations when selecting the right cochlear implant system for you or your child, AB understands that size, appearance, and usability are also practical considerations for recipients. Since 1993, AB has decreased the weight of its sound processors by 94% and will continue to research and develop smaller external components for your comfort when wearing the processor. AB is also committed to improving the appearance of our sound processors and enhancing your hearing experience by ensuring that our cochlear implant system is easy for adults and children alike to use in everyday, real-world conditions.

-
+
Our recipients hear better in real-world situations than patients with other cochlear implant systems.1,2 AB recognizes that you need to be fully informed in order to choose the best cochlear implant system for you or your child. This initiative stresses our commitment to clearly communicate how AB’s unique technology differs from other manufacturers and why these advances matter to your hearing experience. Clarifying these performance differences and the benefits in hearing they deliver will assist patients in their decision-making process and help clinicians support recipients on their journey to hearing with AB.

-
+
Patients want easy access to information about how they can hear their best with an AB cochlear implant system. Recipients also want quick and simple ways to order accessories for expanding their wearing options. Likewise, clinicians want to easily access data or order replacement parts for patients if needed. With this in mind, AB is dedicated to improving our tools and services to make it easy for patients and clinicians to get whatever they need, whenever they need it.

-
+
AB recognizes that patients’ access to cochlear implant technology is significantly dependent upon reimbursement by third parties, both private and governmental. For this reason, we remain focused on obtaining and improving reimbursement for unilateral and bilateral cochlear implants, as well as for the external equipment and reprogramming. As part of this initiative, AB will also work with clinicians to assist with insurance reimbursement for billable activities so that recipients can continue to benefit from affordable patient care. We will expand these efforts, working with governments across the globe to ensure that patients worldwide can hear their best with AB’s cochlear implant system.

-
+
At AB, we understand that our legacy patients—those with prior-generation systems who’ve been with us the longest—want to be assured that we will support them now and always. This initiative affirms that AB will continually support our legacy patients’ equipment, service, and reimbursement needs over the years. We’re committed to staying by your side every step of the way throughout your journey to hearing.

-
+
Our patients are implanted, programmed, and serviced in locations worldwide. This initiative stresses our commitment to designing and developing products that meet the unique needs of different regions across the globe. We’re also dedicated to obtaining regulatory approval outside of America, not just within, and developing clinical trials internationally. Our focus will remain global, which means that our products, services, and technology must be readily accessible to patients wherever they may reside. It also means that our materials must be translated into the patient’s native language so that they are fully informed along their journey to hearing with AB. We will continue to make our cochlear implant system available to patients worldwide through government tenders, bids, and procurement opportunities.

-
+
At AB, we recognize that patients deserve a lifelong partner who will continue to service and upgrade their or their child’s device over a patient’s lifetime. In order to maintain lasting relationships with all of our patients over the years, we must deliver profitability to our shareholders and to our other stakeholders so that we remain a global leader now and in the future. This initiative includes measures to ensure that we will remain your partner for life.

HISTORY
Intrigued by the notion of "helping deaf people hear," Alfred E. Mann founded Advanced Bionics in 1993 and asked Jeff Greiner to lead the fledgling organization of seven engineers and scientists. Since then, Al Mann and Jeff Greiner have been working together to develop state-of-the-art medical technology that improves lives. The seven-person organization they founded has grown to over 600 employees worldwide.
In March 1996, the company received approval from the FDA to market the Clarion® cochlear implant for use in post-lingually deafened adults, and in 1997, received approval to market its cochlear implants for use in children.
Today, AB continues to make industry-leading technological advances with the Harmony® HiResolution® Bionic Ear System (Harmony®). Introduced in 2006, Harmony is the world’s most sophisticated cochlear implant system, using cutting-edge technology to deliver the best possible hearing experience. The Harmony Advantage, only from AB, lets you hear your best everywhere, every time.
AB remains committed to providing recipients with the most reliable, best performing cochlear implant system in the world.
