Compared to many other surgeries, cochlear implant surgery is simple and minimally invasive. The surgery itself typically takes two to four hours. Because it’s done with general anesthesia, you will also spend additional time in the preparation and recovery areas.

Depending on your situation and your doctor, you may go home the same day or spend the night in the hospital. Adults often return to work or typical daily activities within a few days after CI surgery. Your new CI will be activated, or “turned on,” two to four weeks after the implantation surgery, depending on how well you heal. Then, once it’s activated, you will start to hear through your new cochlear implant.

Yes, air travel is safe for people with cochlear implants. Metal detectors and security scanners should not damage the implant or sound processor. But, when you go through security metal detectors, your cochlear implant may activate the alarm. That's why it’s helpful for you to carry your “Patient Emergency Identification Card” with you at all times.
Yes! AB’s HiRes Ultra 3D Cochlear Implant is safe for up to 3.0 Tesla MRI scans without any preparation, surgery, or head bandaging. Simply take off your headpiece and sound processor before the MRI, and put them back on afterwards.

Cochleaire implantatie in beide oren hangt af van uw geschiktheid en het wordt niet altijd vergoed. Soms worden bij mensen met gehoorverlies tegelijkertijd implantaten geplaatst in de beide oren. Dit wordt 'gelijktijdige implantatie' genoemd en wordt gedaan om voor bilateraal horen te zorgen (horen in beide oren). Sommigen laten op een later tijdstip een tweede implantaat plaatsen (sequentiële implantatie) nadat ze een tijdje slechts één implantaat hebben ervaren.

Let op: cochleaire implantaten van Advanced Bionics zijn geïndiceerd voor gebruik door personen met ernstig tot zeer ernstig bilateraal perceptief gehoorverlies (≥ 70 dB HL) en voor kinderen met zeer ernstig bilateraal perceptief gehoorverlies (≥ 90 dB HL).
Uw hoorzorgprofessional kan u het beste vertellen of cochleaire implantaten zullen helpen. Afhankelijk van uw omstandigheden en uw arts, kunt u ofwel dezelfde dag nog naar huis of moet u een nacht in het ziekenhuis blijven. De meeste volwassenen kunnen binnen een paar dagen na de CI-operatie weer hun gewone bezigheden oppakken. Uw nieuwe CI zal, afhankelijk van hoe goed u geneest, twee tot vier werken na de implantatie-operatie worden geactiveerd of "aangezet". Nadat de CI is geactiveerd zult u beginnen te horen via uw nieuwe cochleair implantaat.
Bepaal eerst of een cochleair implantaat u zou kunnen helpen door onze vragenlijst over geschiktheid in te vullen en met een hoorzorgprofessional te praten. Hierna kunnen specialisten van AB al uw vragen beantwoorden en u ondersteunen tijdens de voorbereiding op uw implantatie-operatie, herstel en activering van uw implantaat. AB zal u ook in contact brengen met een CI-ervaringsdeskundige - iemand die al met een cochleair implantaat hoort, zodat zij hun persoonlijke ervaring met u kunnen delen. Zelfs nadat uw CI is geactiveerd kunt u contact opnemen met een AB-specialist om er zeker van te zijn dat u met tools en informatiebronnen voor hoortraining het meeste uit uw CI haalt.
Ja, vliegen is vellig voor mensen met cochleaire implantaten. Metaaldetectoren en beveiligingsscanners zouden het implantaat of de spraakprocessor niet moeten beschadigen. Maar wanneer u door de metaaldetectoren van de beveiliging gaat, kan uw cochleair implantaat het alarm activeren. Daarom is het handig om uw Implant Card altijd bij u te hebben.
Ja! Het HiRes Ultra 3D cochleair implantaat van AB is veilig voor MRI-scans tot 3.0 Tesla, zonder dat enige voorbereiding, operatie of hoofdverband nodig is. U hoeft voorafgaand aan de MRI alleen maar de zendspoel en spraakprocessor af te nemen en later weer terug te plaatsen.
