Sky CI Integro and HiRes Ultra 3D Implant Work Together to Help Your Child Hear Their Best

The (1) microphones on the (2) sound processor pick up sounds around your child. These sounds are turned into digital signals that are sent to the (3) headpiece. The headpiece sends the signals to the (4) HiRes Ultra 3D implanted under the skin. The (5) electrode array stimulates your child's hearing nerve. The hearing nerve send the signals to the brain, allowing your child to hear their world.

Your CI centre will be able to assess whether your child is a suitable candidate.

Hearing aids basically make sounds louder. But for children with more hearing loss, this may not be enough to make sounds clearer or easier to understand. Cochlear implants send sound signals directly to the hearing nerve, where they are sent on to the brain.

For most children, cochlear implant surgery is a routine procedure performed under general anesthesia and typically takes 2–4 hours. During the operation, the surgeon places the internal implant under the skin behind the ear and carefully inserts the electrode array into the cochlea. Most children go home the same day or after one night in the hospital and are back to their usual activities within a few days.
